What Is Anemia?

Anemia is a condition of lack of red blood cells that carry oxygen is carried by the haemoglobin which is an iron-rich protein present in blood and gives the red colour to the blood

Anemia has three main causes: Blood loss, lack of red blood cell production and high rates of blood cell destruction.

Many conditions lead to anemia, including simple diet deficiency to major underlying causes. Common causes of anemia are as follows –

If you have mild anemia, you may not have many symptoms. The sign and symptoms depend on the cause and level of haemoglobin in the body. Signs and symptoms of anemia might include:

  • Pale Skin
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain
  • Headache
  • Cold extremities
  • Irregular heartbeat
What should be your diet if you are Anemic? 

If you are experiencing any symptoms of anemia, The best diet plan for anemia includes food rich in iron and other vitamins. Here we enlisted some essential foods which can help you deal with anemia  

  1. Green leafy vegetables: Green, dark vegetables are the best source of iron. You can have vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges while eating these green vegetables as vitamin C may increase the absorption of iron.
  2. Nuts And Seeds: Many nuts and seeds are nutritiously dense foods that contain a tremendous amount of iron.
  3. Sea Food: Seafood such as oysters is one of the best ways to supplement your diet if you are anemic. Most fish contain iron, especially shellfish such as oysters, clams, and crabs.

Have Anjeer milk:

This is a home remedy to increase hemoglobin in the blood as Anjeer is rich in iron. It is recommended to boil pieces of Anjeer and cardamom in milk on a low flame and drink it at bedtime. Do this twice a week.

Consume food from iron utensils:

This is an age-old technique. The food in an iron utensil absorbs iron from it, making itself potent for an anemic patient.

Consume ghee in the morning

Ghee balances the pitta dosha. It thus tends to be the root of anemia, which is an aggravated pitta. It is recommended to consume 10 ml of ghee early in the morning on an empty stomach.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid eating black gram, sour substances mustard
  • Do not sleep in the daytime
  • Avoid exposure to the sun . Stress and anger should also be avoided 
  • Don’t smoke or consume alcohol
  • Do not suppress natural urges such as urinating, bowel movements, etc.
