The ingredients required for making moong dal kichadi are:
  • 2/3 cup – Rice
  • 1/3 cup – Moong dal
  • 3 and a half cups – Water
  • 1/4 tsp- Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp – Cumin seeds or powder
  • Salt according to the taste
  • Olive oil or cow’s ghee, 1 tablespoon

Procedure:
  • Put 1/3 cup Moong daal and 2/3 cup Rice in a large bowl-like container.
  • Mix it and properly wash it two or three times in clean water.
  • Now set it aside and light the flame for the pressure cooker.
  • Olive oil or cow’s ghee, 1 tablespoon (optional) Allow it to warm up a little before adding 1/4 tsp. of cumin (jeera) seeds or powder.
  • Clean the rice, add the moong daal, and roast for a while in the cooker.
  • Insert 3 1/2 cups of water
  • Add salt to taste and 1/4 tsp. of turmeric powder.
  • Once combined, cover the pressure cooker’s lid.
  • For 3 to 4 whistles, cook—one on a high flame, followed by two or three others on a low or medium flame.
  • Turn off the flame and wait for the pressure to drop naturally. 5 to 8 minutes is possible.
  • When the lid is opened, khichdi is prepared for serving.
  • You can also use cow ghee when you’re eating.
  • Eat it with ghee, buttermilk, or curd.

Tips:
  • You can add a bit additional water to make the khichdi softer.
  • If you are cooking it for your infant, add a little more water, about 4 cups (as directed in this recipe). 
  • Garlic, curry leaves, or coriander leaves can also be used, depending on your preference.
